Just listen to the fifteen minute version of Voodoo Chile. Straight forward blues at its best. Burning of the Midnight Lamp features psychedelic aspects especially with the harpsichord. And what about the soulful vocals of Have You Ever Been (To Electric Lady Land)?
In addition to the stunning tones as outlined above, Jimi utilizes a wider instrumental definition outside of the guitar, bass, and drums. Numerous special effects and keyboards add a layering effect. Saxophones, flutes, and vocal harmonies soften up othet tracks. Also, Jimi Hendrix varies his singing approach from song to song which is certainly more appealing.
Electric Lady Land was recorded in 1968 but truly sounds well ahead of its time. It certainly sounds as fresh as many recordings just recording within the last few years. This one may just be Jimi's best.
