"All is not lost with the R&B artist"

Today I'm changing my rating of Trey Songz from a +3 to +4 after what I've seen this guy be able to do with his music in the past two months. Originally I thought Trey Songz was destined to be a one hit wonder in the R&B world. I loved his first song 'Can't Help But Wait' - but by the time it faded from the radio, I was pretty sure it was the last time we would all hear from him. I even listened to his first albums and thought that they were pretty weak. Compared to Chris Brown, Ne-Yo and Usher and even low key singers like Musiq Soulchild, he didn't seem like he could hang.

He seriously stepped up his game with this album. Sometimes I think he's way into sex...but I guess that's just his style. I mean, anybody who performs a song called "I Invented Sex" is waaay too into himself. But somehow, Trey pulls it off, especially when he came out with the remix and even featured Keri Hilson, Usher and even Drake on it. I knew then that he was seriously considered a new part of today's R&B music.
Here are some of my favorite songs on the Ready album:

- Does He Do It (#6)
- Jupiter Love (#9)
- Be Where You Are (#10)
- Holla If You Need Me (#14)
For me, it's tough to say where I see Trey Songz in a year from now and whether or not he'll still be as popular as he is becoming today. I certainly think a lot of Chris Brown fans are giving him a spin, probably because Chris is pretty much on pause at the moment. But I'm not yet if he's got a lasting effect such as Ne-Yo or Usher. Right now, he reminds me of J-Holiday a lot. Not a one hit wonder, but perhaps a one hit album?
I love this performance of I Need a Girl on his performance of MTV Unplugged. If you haven't heard the album, I highly recommend it!

the thing about trey is that he's actually been around for a while, mainly on the R&B scene though. He's had some great songs that I'm realizing that everybody didn't know about (i.e. his actual first single: just gotta make it). He has definitely paid his dues and is really just starting to get that mainstream attention after such a great year. he's got a pretty okay voice but his tenacity is what will continue to carry him. that and his manager is a long time industry heavy-hitter.

I love Trey and I'm with you on the thinking that he would be a "One hit Wonder" but I am so glad that he surpass that.

Except for his shirt of course. Trey is unwavering to make his mark as one of the best R&B singers in the game for the time being. The album isn’t bad at all and I reviewed what I felt was the best tracks on his album. 1).
