Is There a Reason to Hate Rilo Kiley?

I'll go out on a limb and say no, no there isn't a reason to hate Rilo Kiley. They literally have a song for everything. From breakups, to study songs, to driving songs, to get ready songs, Rilo Kiley has it all. Jenny and Blake do a great job on vocals. Blake sings a lot more on their early albums and Jenny sings more on the latter albums. The music itself is something that you could never get sick of.  You'll find a faveorite song and then discover something new.

Their studio work is just a preview to what their music is actually like. The really good songs are the unreleased tracks and the songs they do in concerts only, like I Love L.A., A Town Called Luckey, and Patiently. Luckly you can find recordings of these secret songs on Vimeo and YouTube. They also do amazing covers my top two are Let My Love Open Doors and Such Great Heights.

Their shows are amazing as well. I saw them last summer with my friend and we had so much fun. Blake likes to make small talk during the show and they'll take requests at the end, though if you request the Frug they will make you go on stage and sing the words with them. Only the girls who requested it didn't know the words, but Jenny helped them out.

Incase you want more Rilo both Jenny and Blake have side projects which are just as great as Rilo. Jenny has released two collaborative albums Rabbit Fur Coat and Acid Tongue. Blake started The Elected and has released Me First and Sun,Sun,Sun.

I love Rilo Kiley and I've been meaning to review them! I followed them up till More Adventurous. I have Under the Blacklight, but still haven't sat down and properly listened to it yet.

You're right, Rilo Kiley really does have a song for everything!  Some songs make me feel nostalgic, and others are perfect for a late night drive.

P.S. Their hard-to-find songs can be found on Limewire and can be requested on Rilo Kiley fan forums!

I had no idea Rilo Kiley did a cover of Such Great Heights. I love how they mix tragic lyrics with saccharine music. I found Under the Blacklight disappointing since it seemed like the rated PG-13 version of themselves.

I tested out a few tracks on them and they arent bad. I wouldnt personally listen to them but they are good enough to my ears that I can sit there and listen through their songs. The lead singers voice reminds me of Gwen Stefani a little bit..and thats a compliment! I can see them being a big deal!

Wiki

The Silverlake band currently features Jenny Lewis, Blake Sennett, Pierre de Reeder, and Jason Boesel.  Dave Rock was the drummer for the first EP and during the early days of Take Offs and Landings.  During their live performances, Jenny and Pierre switch between guitar, bass and keyboards.  Vocals are shared between Sennett and Lewis.

Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett both began as child actors.  Lewis starred in the films, Troop Beverly Hills, Foxfire and The Wizard.  Sennett starred in television shows such as Salute Your Shorts, Boy Meets World and Family Ties (as a young Alex P. Keaton) under the stage name, Blake Soper.  Their first debut LP was re-released on Barzuk Records with additional variations of songs from the initial recording, including the re-worked "Always," a track from their first EP.  The Execution of All Things was released on Omaha-based Saddle Creek Records.  More Adventurous was released on Brute/Beaute Records before signing with Warner Brothers for Under the Blacklight.

Blake and Jason have a side project, The Elected and Jenny Lewis has released a solo albums, one countryesque album featuring the Watson Twins as backup vocalists.

There has been speculation on what the meaning is behind the name Rilo Kiley.  During the early days of the band, former drummer Dave Rock spoke of how they were named after a pair of conjoined twins named Rilo and Kiley, likening it to the close ...
