I like every song on "Making Mirrors" for a different reason. Gotye does sound a lot like Sting and Peter Gabriel, but the musical arrangements and the themes of his songs set him apart from the other singers. Some of these songs I enjoy because of the melody and musical arrangements. I like the funky sound of a song like "Easy Way Out" and the soothing tone of a song like "Bronte". "Giving Me A Chance" is a song with good keyboard playing and percussion instruments. There are songs on this album that uplift me just by the lyrical content. I love the song "Save Me". This is a song about a person's life is transformed by the love of another person. The words are very moving on this song. "Eyes Wide Open" is actually my favorite tune on here. I love the beat of the song and the lyrical line We walk the plank with our eyes wide open. I can relate to these lyrics a lot. There are a lot of times I get into things with no idea of what to do. This song raises my consciousness of how my actions affect other people. "In Your Light" is an excellent upbeat track. This song simply makes me happy. The saxophone playing is good on this record. I like the musical arrangement of "Smoke And Mirrors". The tone of this song puts me at ease. "State Of The Art" has a groovy retro tone that I love. "Somebody I Used To Know" is a radio hit that gets over played, but I still enjoy listening to it. I like this album very much.
