Brazilians love Hotel California

When ever I think of The Eagles I think of Hotel California. And whenever I think of Hotel California, I think of Brazilians.

When I was in high school we had an exchange student from Brazil stay with us for a couple months. This girl would not stop singing Hotel California. It represented to her all that she believed California to be. Despite being stuck in Moreno Valley of all places, she still sang that California was such a lovely place. Somehow she missed the darkness of the lyrics.. or maybe she really DID understand what it meant to be living in MoVal.

It's odd that this song makes me nostalgic. It won a Grammy the year I was born. It paints a slightly frightening picture of my home state. Yet, any time I've heard it while away I focus on the "lovely place" and "plenty of room" lyrics and long to be home.

On a side note: Among the many many many covers of Hotel California is a pretty awesome one by Reel Big Fish. Man I love me some RBF.

I love this song! It's one of my all time favorites. Have you heard the acoustic live version? It's so perfect... I can't believe that they did it live in concert. This song never gets old. One of my favorite covers of this song is by the Gypsy Kings. It makes me smile every time I hear it. I think that version was featured in the movie "The Big Lebowski" :)

The Eagles are just absolutely awful. They're right up there with The Steve Miller Band.
