Too Much Too Soon was the second studio album from the New York Dolls.  This time around the band was looking to actually sell some records and keep their deal with Mercury who was pushing them to sell some discs and lay off the excesses of being a rock band.  They were getting frustrated with them because of all of the money they invested in them and they were paying off.  The band was splintering into two factions during this time but a compromise was made and they began to work on the new album.  They decided to take their love of The Shangri-Las one step further by hiring their old producer to work on the new album.

Four of the ten tracks were cover songs.  Thunders wrote and sang lead on one (Chatterbox) and co-wrote four with Johansen (Babylon, It's Too Late, Who Are the Mystery Girls? and Human Being.
Sylvain and Johansen co wrote Puss N' Boots (a song not about the Cat).  The sound one the album was more mellowed and radio friendly.  Morton's production made the band sound soft and didn't capture any of the rawness of their live shows.  All in all it's a typical 70's rock album with a spark of the band's personality.  But the new sound didn't find any new listeners and it alienated fans of the first album.  The stress of being a New York Doll would split the band apart and it would over thirty years before they recorded a third album.
