Champagne is such a lovely beverage and even lovelier if you sip it in a chateau in the heart of Napa Valley. If you're looking for the crème de la crème of vineyards, look no further than Domaine Carneros.
Domaine Carneros, located in the heart of Carneros (surprise!) and a regional landmark, was my first vineyard visit and has remained my favorite. The views from the elevated patio of the chateau are exquisite; vineyards decorate the rolling hills for miles. The landscape and ambience transport you straight to the countryside of France. The staff, and in my case, a wise elderly man, are truly connoisseurs of their beverage brands. They aid in your selection of wines, champagnes and nibbles (including a tasty cheese spread, olives, and pates), educate you on the vineyard history, and in the end entreat you to sign up for their wine and champagne clubs. Did you know the smaller the bubbles in a glass of champagne, the less likely you are to have a hangover?
I recommend starting with a flight of champagnes. Though the Domaine wine is excellent, their champagne is the best I've ever tasted. The shining gem among the bubbly is the Brut Rose, pink in color and slightly sweet in flavor. It's so good that I caved to the sales pitch and signed up for the champagne club myself (a monthly delivery of intoxicating potion). Having sampled many a bottle, I can tell you our waiter was right: Their champagne won't give you a hangover.
