A 2010 Tim Burton film based on Lewis Carroll's book of the same name.
< read all 39 reviews You know, I don't pay much attention to professional movie reviews so when I read on Twitter that the critics trashed Alice in Wonderland, I was a little surprised. Especially since my 4 year old and I watched it 4 times in a row! Yep, you read that right.
Of course, I love Johnny Depp in everything that he does- he's a chameleon actor and he does not disappoint as the Mad Hatter in this Tim Burton adaptation. Likewise, Helena Bonham Carter was perfection as the Red Queen and Crispin Glover as her knight. Mia W., who played Alice, did a pretty good job starring with such movie heavyweights, and all of the silly Wonderland characters (Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum, the field mouse, the March Hare, Cheshire Cat, etc.) were fresh and entertaining. The only actor that even disappointed me a tiny bit was Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. She did a little too much flitting and floating about instead of real acting.
The story of Alice escaping her engagement party and realizing that Wonderland is not just a dream is believable and fun. I like the relationship that is depicted with her and the Mad Hatter as well. Alice ultimately serves as the heroine in this movie, saving Wonderland from the Red Queen, and I loved that aspect.
Ultimately, my kiddo and I were futterwagoning....vigorously along with the Mad Hatter before the end of the movie. We still pop it in every few weeks and I am not sick of it yet.
