About Me

I'd like to share what I know about: Creative Writing, Books, Creativity, Gaming, Problem Solving

I am a pessimist by nature, a cynic by experience, and a Christian by grace.  I grew up around the church, but it seems like the more that I experience God, the further I get from much of the organized church.

I am freelance and fiction writer between finishing my degree at Taylor University.

Super Freakonomics (Book)
I had the bad fortune to pick up Superfreakonomics the weekend before a long road trip.  I say bad fortune because I couldn't stop reading it to pack, and now I'm on the other side of the …
The Almost True Story of Ryan Fisher: A Novel
Ryan Fisher wants to expand his business.  Ryan Fisher understands American folk-Christian culture, or at least has a decent vantage point of it from the outside.  It is this drive for success …
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millenium
I was initially drawn to Stieg Larsson's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo after reading about the movie, which, to be honest, is a crying shame.  When I started looking for it (this was before …

Quick Tips

Skin
Not bad writing, but I CAN NOT STAND how far Ted Dekker swerves to avoid cussing. Either avoid it completely, or just say the word, but don't go halfway and leave it hanging.

Blankets was incredibly meaningful and touching. And I'm a cold-hearted cynic.

The Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft
I loved it, easily one of the most memorable and far-reaching writing styles I have ever come across. One of a few authors that I think about or reference at least once every few weeks. I just wish he …

Pagan Christianity: Exploring the Roots of Our Church Practices
One of my favorite books. Subversive and yet loving, I felt more than a few of my presuppositions with regards to religion being challenged. Prepare to be shocked.

Churched: One Kid's Journey to God Despite A Holy Mess
Poignant and witty. I laughed on every other page, and wanted to cry on a few. A great read for Christian twenty-somethings who grew up in very conservative churches.

Trade Paperback Edition
I liked the movie, but it is clear that this is how the story is supposed to resolve. I love the message and the messenger all the same. Powerful.
