What makes Obama tick.

Recently I heard a fascinating interview with author Dinesh D'Souza on a nationally syndicated radio talk show.  During the interview Mr. D'Souza posited a rather provocative theory.  After carefully studying the life and writings of President Barack Obama Mr. D'Souza believes he has uncovered the key to understanding what motivates the 44th President of the United States.  Millions of Americans (myself included) have viewed Mr. Obama as some kind of radical Socialist while others think of him as nothing more than just another machine politician from Chicago.  We loathe his policies and style of governance and simply cannot understand why any American President would behave in the manner in which he has.  Incredibly, we feel that we do not even know who this man is because the press failed to do due diligence when he was running for President in 2007 and 2008.  No reporter even bothered to ask Barack Obama why he wanted to be President.  In his new book "The Roots of Obama's Rage" this New York Times best-selling author sheds considerable light on just who Barack Obama is, what he believes and how he came to believe it.  It is a riveting read.

According to D'Souza, in order to figure out what motivates Barack Obama it is useful to understand the things that do not.  Many African-American leaders have been highly critical of Mr. Obama for not aggressively pursuing their agenda.  The truth is that he has little interest in it.  Barack Obama grew up in rather privileged circumstances in both Hawaii and Indonesia.  His real life experiences have absolutely nothing in common with Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King and all of those courageous individuals who put their lives on the line during the Civil Rights struggles of the 1950's and 1960's.  For Obama the struggle for Civil Rights in America is just a very small part of a much broader agenda. Furthermore, in his research D'Souza found very little evidence to support the proposition that Mr. Obama embraces either Socialist or Marxist ideologies. I found that rather surprising.  So just what is it that drives President Obama?  Dinesh D'Souza believes that Mr. Obama has embraced the "anti-Colonialist" agenda that was espoused by his late father Barack Obama Sr.  Although the two of them  met on only one occasion when the President was just 10 years old his father has had an enormous influence on him.  D'Souza also contends that Obama was greatly influenced by the writings of a number of anti-colonialist thinkers, most notably a man named Frantz Fanon whose work remains highly influential in the field of post-colonial studies.  Clearly D'Souza is on to something here.  When one begins to evaluate Mr. Obama's actions as President through the prism of anti-colonialism you begin to comprehend why he has governed in the manner that he has. While I still vehemently oppose virtually everything the man stands for I find that is it extremely useful to understand why he is doing these things. This theory helps to explain why he bailed out the car companies, supported TARP, returned the bust of Winston Churchill to the British and rammed through the highly unpopular health care reform legislation among other things. In Mr. Obama's view the U.S. and other Western nations are still neo-colonialists who must be cut down to size. And it seems he will do anything in his power to make that happen.

Throughout the pages of "The Roots of Obama's Rage" Dinesh D'Souza lays out his case in a very workmanlike and compelling way.  I thought the book was at once well researched and very nicely written.  The revelations that the author has presented in this book certainly offer much food for thought. We have a President who thinks of his own country as a rogue nation. Simply incredible!  I must say that "The Roots of Obama's Rage" provides more real insight into the man who is now the leader of the free world than any other book, magazine, or press report that I have seen over the past few years.  I would urge everyone to take a look at this book.   Very highly recommended!

The fact that Barack Obama's presidency is a historic one has been repeated so many times that it has become a truism. About this book

“Stunning...the most profound insight I have read in the last six years about Barack Obama.” —NEWT GINGRICH

The Roots of Obama’s Rage reveals Obama for who he really is: a man driven by the anti-colonial ideology of his father and the first American president to actually seek to reduce America's strength, influence, and standard of living. Controversial and compelling, The Roots of Obama’s Rage is poised to be the one book that truly defines Obama and his presidency.
