My Favorite Cannibal Movies

  • Sep 1, 2009
Deranged/Motel Hell Double Feature
Actually BOTH of these movies involve cannibalism. The first one is the best treatment of the Ed Gein story, the guy who inspired both PSYCHO and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, which should give you some idea of how broad the statment "based on a true story" really is! MOTEL HELL is complete fiction and is based on the old hillbilly barbecue theme.
Whe the world goes to war,, blows itself to hell & back, and life on the surface becomes impossible, what do ya do? You dig down deep in the earth and look for the most plentiful food source, your fellow survivors!
The People Under the Stairs
If that kid you adopted from the Ukraine doesn't work out just stick him under the stairs like the couple in this Wes Crave flick do. You just have to remember to feed 'em every once in awhile or they'll turn on each other in order to survive.
A neat little flick built around the infamous Donner Party who resorted to cannibalism in order to make it through being trapped in a mountain pass one winter while on their way out west.
Movie poster
I refuse to say anything about such a well known flick except that I'm referring to the original!
Ed Gein
Here I'm talking about the the version starring Steve Railsback and not the one starring Kane Hodder which makes Eddie look like another Jason or Leatherface when he was just a little guy.
Manhunter (Full Screen Edition) (1986)
While not the more accurate adaptation, it's still the one that I prefer.
Eating Raoul
The aptly named Blands have a dream of starting their own restaurant dedicated to fine dining but lack of funds stands in their way. What to do?

What did you think of this list?

3 and 5 are classics and I know there are a ton of others. If you include some non-horror films the list will grow quite a bit too. A lot of survival stories turn into man-eats-man stories, so documentaries and biopics would be a fun addition to the mix. Also, where's "Sweeney Todd"? Don't you like aristocrat meat pies for dinner, Queenie?

Didn't care much for ANY version of Sweeney Todd that I've seen, and yes that includes Depp. I know there are plenty of other cannibal movies and some of them are absent on purpose such as most of the Hannibal Lector movies and CANNIBAL FEROX etc.
