Hi Ryan, thanks for the question! The best winery is really a subjective one, dependent on what kind of wine experience that you'd like to enjoy. Is there a particular style of wine that you like: Cab, Pinot, Chard, port? Or do you want a type of experience: the big "Napa Wine Country" type or more of a down-home, small family winery experience? Let me know and I can definitely point you in a good direction. Cheers!

Ward, thanks for the response. I've never been to Napa before so I don't really know what to expect. As far as types of wine, I'm more of a red wine guy. I enjoy Pinot Noir and Syrah. I'd also have to say I'd probably enjoy both the big Napa experience and the small family winery experience.

Wineries come in all shapes and sizes but I'd definitely check out the tour and tasting at Robert Mondavi Winery. Arguably the most iconic winery in California it will not leave you disappointed.  Contrast that with Saddleback Cellars right down the road for a small family run winery with great wines and a the tasting takes place on a barrel in the cellar.  I believe Saddleback requires a reservation but you can usually call an hour or so before with no problem.  Might as well stop at Oakville Grocery for lunch as it is also right around the corner.

Hi Ryan, That's a great start, thanks Shayne! I have some suggestions as well. I think for a "big Napa" experience, try Darioush (http://www.darioush.com/wines.html). It's a stunning winery, styled like a Persian temple and their wines are fantastic and include a Syrah and Pinot. Nearby in Stag's Leap District along the Trail, you can get a small to medium size experience at Regusci (http://www.regusciwinery.com/), where I actually like their Cab Franc and Zinfandel the best in the Valley. A very small winery experience can be had across the street at the Rutherford Grill on the other side of the Valley on 29 at Elizabeth Spencer (http://www.elizabethspencerwines.com/). They feature a great Pinot and a tasty Syrah, among many other great wines.
