Hmm..depends on the time period-- Cary Bates, Stan Lee, Denny O'Neil, Len Wein--then, Roy Thomas, Simonson, Roger Stern, Alan Moore, Bendis, Millar, Straczynski, so many to name!

Great picks. Most of those are among my personal favs as well, though I'd throw in Marv Wolfman and Neil Gaiman too.

Forgot about Wolfman, I also forgot about Kirkham (Walking Dead). I like Gaiman but for me, he's a hit or a miss. I dunno I think it's just me.

remember Elliot S. Maggin?

I agree somewhat on Gaiman. I love his really dark stuff, but his more childlike stories all seem derivative of Lewis Carroll and L. Frank Baum.

I'd also add Chris Claremont and Geoff Johns to the mix.

I like Claremont but I dunno, his latest work have been lackluster. Johns I also like but I didn't like the fact that he resurrected Barry Allen. Grant Morrison I like because of the weirdness in his writing, but I don't like his work all the time. I guess it's just that I wouldn't pick up a comic just because it had their names on it.

Regarding Claremont, I'm primarily familiar with his stuff from the '70s through the early '90s. His run on X-Men kind of defined the whole series for me.

Hey, for me too. But his latest just...I dunno. It feels to be a mere marketing grab. Busiek I also loved for his run in Avengers and Astro City--but I am not familiar with his other works. Hey you remember Bernie Wrightson's art in Swamp Thing. You like Paul Jenkins?
November 04, 2010
I love Wrightson's stuff. As for Jenkins, other than a few DC / Vertigo and Marvel stories, I'm not too familiar with him. He's been pretty active in recent years creating new series and relaunching older ones, but I haven't read any of those.

Jenkins is pretty good. I believe he also did MAN-THING for a while.
