Hello and welcome to Beyond the Printed Page - Comics & Films (and TV too)!
This community was created to allow Lunch.com members to express their passion and share their knowledge of intelligent, mature graphic literature in its many genres and incarnations. The community will cover many writers, artists, and titles and will delve into the artistry and the creativity of the medium.
WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING REVIEWS, QUICK TIPS, and LISTS on COMIC BOOK-INSPIRED FILMS, TV SHOWS, & ANIMATION! However, as mentioned before, the inclusion of comic book, graphic novels, and anime adaptations are only accepted if they are fairly mature and adult-oriented.
There has been a long standing stigma that comic books are a children's medium, but I feel that this is a terrible misconception and that it does not reflect the overall emotional maturity, thematic complexity, artistic merits, or literary quality of the works.
Graphic literature can provide readers with all of the ideas found in purely textual literature, but it expands upon textual literature in that it provides readers with a visual means of storytelling as well. When one looks at the long history of written words combined with art, one does not discount Charles Dickens' or William Shakespeare's works, and yet many of their writings have been aided by visual means, so to discriminate against modern graphic literature seems both pretentious and hypocritical... But I digress. Part of what makes this community unique is that I have chosen to focus on material for teens and adults and not on material for children.
I would also like to point out that this community fully supports and encourages contributions to other communities and their founders. It's very important to me that community founders stick together and are willing to share content and promote one another, so please be sure to visit: Cafe Libri: Reviewing Books & More Movie Hype
