Comic books are a medium that require both textual and visual elements to tell a story. In order for the story to be gripping and engage a reader there must be a balance in the quality of the art and the writing, which means that the artist and the writer must work well together. Who do you think is the best writer/artist team in comics and why?

good question. It also helps when the writer and artist are one and the same such as with Walter Simonson and John Byrne (in his prime). I will have to say that there are artists who can work marvelously with any writer as with George Perez, John Romita Jr., John Buscema, Jim Lee, Dave Cockrum, Sal Buscema and Ernie Chua.
The best recent team: Mark Millar and Finch, Alan Davis and Mark Farmer, Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev. Alex Ross is real good, but sometimes his illustrations overtake the story.
Classic: Lee and Kirby. Thomas and Buscema. Stern and Buscema. Wein and Perez. Busiek and Perez. Bendis and Romita Jr.
Stan Lee/ John Romita on The Amazing Spiderman (issues 39 and up). Spidey always had great tales and Steve Ditko was ok but his illustrations were more like the work of the 1950's. With the Green Goblin tales of 39-40, the artwork brought those stories to new heights and the covers brought cover art to a new level.
