Daredevil aka Matt Murdock and his partner Foggy Nelson move on with their lives as attorneys in their new law firm. Matt is still reeling over the loss of a friend. Things become more complicated when a man enters their office with information that can put the Kingpin aka Wilson Fisk behind bars. The man is quickly murdered but this doesn't stop the two from continuing on. -summary

Although I've enjoyed several titles written by Kevin Smith, with Green Arrow: Quiver being among my favorite books by him. I was glad to see him step down from writing duties for Daredevil. I will admit that he laid out some great groundwork to start off the second volume of Daredevil, but I found the first eight stories to be quite over written and very hard to get through. Marvel handed the duties to David Mack and I found his short run to be quite exciting; he would go on to co-create the character Echo and debut her in this run. There's no way I can claim her to be a favorite, but at this time, she was definitely one of Marvel's better creations being heavily based off the Taskmaster from where I see it. This TPB, Daredevil: Parts of a Hole, collects Daredevil issues 9 - 15 written by David Mack.
Daredevil: Parts of a Hole is an excellent title during this second volume, and it's the absolute best until Daredevil Volume 7: Hardcore. This story is incredibly character driven. Mack does a splendid job in giving everyone enough face time to the point where they all feel important. This book would also make a pretty good intro for new fans.
While Daredevil and Foggy plot the Kingpin's downfall; the Kingpin is plotting Daredevil's death. He sends a girl by the name of Maya Lopez aka Echo to see Matt, but on the side she's sent to kill Daredevil for the supposed murder of her father. Echo falls in love with Matt completely unaware of his alter-ego, and when they eventually clash, Matt's strong feelings for her slashes more than 90% of his strength against her.
The build up is done exceptionally well, and the relationship between Matt and Echo are done believable enough. The love story portion had me roped in a great deal, and it felt every bit as well polished as the action. Mack uses these characters to create the perfect romance we all dream about; Matt is blind, while Echo is deaf, and they seem to be exactly what each other had been searching for. When looking back at Daredevil's pass romances with Elektra, Black Widow, and even Karen Page, I find this one to be the most likely.
Echo is also an awesome character in terms of her ability; she has the gift to mimic all physical movements she sees. In preparation for her fight, she watched a video taped battle between Daredevil and Bullseye, and in the process, she learns how Daredevil fights move for move, plus picks up Bullseyes deadly accuracy with throwing weapons; which creates some pretty nice encounters. The Kingpin is also explored and there's something more to learn about with him. Despite a few slow moments, the story is paced well enough to where nothing seems tacked on in the slightest.
Joe Quasada's artwork is gorgeous and captivating. He at times uses splash pages to create these vivid, dream like sequences that meshes very well with the story and symbolism. The art cleverly works further in developing the innocence of Echo's character. And the action sequences are well rendered with sharp attacks and even a gunshot to the face being left up to the imagination. I will also say this book has one of the best designs for the Kingpin, as he looks so huge and even more intimidating than usual.
The only problem I can imagine some having with this book will be the aftermath. The final pages is a side story that takes place in Hell's Kitchen, and it shows the effect that this part of New York has on civilians. I'm pretty much unsure what to think of this story in relation to this book though. It's a good thing it takes place at the end, because it could have heavily effected the pacing of the story had it been in the middle. Overall, Parts of a Hole is definitely something I can consider to be a great story. It had a nice balance of romance and action for me; I can imagine action junkies wanting more, but I can't imagine many people coming away not enjoying it. Recommended if you're a comic fan. This TPB is 176 pages.

I haven't noticed DC doing that. I gave a few of the New 52's a read and I'm pretty much mixed on them. I recently read Grifter, since I did like him in Wildcats. I'll just say that I wasn't too impressed. Deathstroke was pretty good and so was Wonder Woman. It definitely sounds like desperation. DC didn't need a reboot like this. They just needed to play their cards better like how Marvel did things after Siege.
