Love and death in Gilead

  • May 21, 2009
This third graphic novel of the Dark Tower series branches off from the Stephen King books and gives the reader new information about Roland and the fate of his world.

I believe that the story line is faithful to the series, and things happen that are mentioned almost in passing in the regular books. There's an element of inevitable death and destruction permeating this work, a foreshadowing if you will, of what will be as Roland grows older.

There is much mayhem and sadness in this work, and the artistry is excellent to capture the mood of time and place. I truly feel that the next work in the series will most likely be even more somber and sad, and even though I look forward to it as a reader, I don't look forward to it as a Dark Tower fan.

About this book

The ka-tet of Roland, Alain, and Cuthbert have returned safely to their home in Gilead. But all is not well. Roland has kept the evil Maerlyn's Grapefruit and has become obsessed with peering into its pinkish depths despite the deadly toll it's taken on his health. And what the young gunslinger sees brings him the darkest of nightmares. Meanwhile, Roland's father has led a posse in search of those who threatened his son's life in Hambry - John Farson and the Big Coffin Hunters. And in this encounter, Stephen Deschain's life may be forfeit. This title collects Dark Tower: Treachery numbered 1-6.
