A DC Universe Animated Original Movie about the origins of Wonder Woman.
< read all 5 reviewsWonder Woman is the newest animated film from DC comics. Both DC and Marvel have been releasing some pretty impressive straight-to-DVD animations in the last few years.
Wonder Woman is no exception, as the artwork is excellent and the voice talent includes stars like Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion and Rosario Dawson. The story is also co-written by Gail Simone, who is one of the best comic book writers in the business today.
My only complaint about this well-intentioned film is that it is purely an origin story. Yes, there is a villain (Ares, the god of war) and climax, but this is essentially just window dressing for the "making of Wonder Woman." Although that is certainly an decent story, most people who are interested in this film have already read/seen a Wonder Woman origin story a million times.
You could argue that this is an animated film made to initiate kids who have never read Wonder Woman or seen the television series. However, this movie is rated PG-13 and is obviously geared toward an older, more comic book-savvy crowd.
Overall, I liked this film and it was definitely worth buying the special edition for the bonus documentaries. I just hope they follow up the movie with something fresh that we haven't seen already.
