Disclaimer: I met Alison Lohman when we were both about 17 years old and competing in Junior Miss. She had that theatrical charisma even then, but it was years later that I saw a newspaper ad for "White Oleander" and thought "Hey, I know her!"

When I can forgive her for having an appearance on "7th Heaven," I admit that Alison's work is good. She's petite, but powerful. She plays dreamy roles well -- like the young love interest in "Big Fish" or the animated young girl in "Beauwolf." (I'm also trying to forgive her for getting to kiss Ewan McGregor.)

She's commanding on screen. I'd like to see her in comedy, but she excels in drama. Her "White Oleander" role as Astrid made that clear.

I'm eager to see her in more.
