Finally an action star is back after a 20 year hiatus

During the 80s, and even early 90s, They used to make action movies that were really entertaining.  I'm talking about the classics like Commando, Rambo, Blood sport, you name it.  All these movies were instant classics and every guy would talk about them and say how cool the fight scenes were.  No one would ever complain about how there wasn't any "character development" or how the plot didn't make sense.  All they care about was that the main character had a mission, and that was to beat up all the bad guys.  During this era, there was an abundance of these action stars that kept churning out entertaining movies, some bad ones, one after another.  Guys like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stalone, Steven Segal, and Jean Claude Van Damme.  These guys were known to every guy as action heros/stars.

Then came the late 90s.  Arnold and Sylvester started making family films or as I like to call them, piece of shit movies.  Van Damme and Segal just gained weight and made straight to DVD movies.  I don't know what happened but I think some stupid critics probably tried to give them horrible advice like asking them to take serious roles that required some serious "acting".

I thought that Vin Diesel or Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would take over as the next action stars but Vin Diesel went the wrong route too by looking for more serious acting roles and The Rock started doing family films.  So I lost all hope after these 2 guys let me down.

Until Jason Statham appeared.  Although he was a pretty good actor in some of the more well written/directed films by Guy Ritchie, he's definitely taken over as the next superstar action hero in my book.  I first realized this when he came out with the first Transporter movie.  The plot, like I give a shit for an action movie, wasn't the greatest.  The acting was the same.  But the action was superb.  He gave the usual good guy takes on 100 bad guys at once with just his fist and some metal pipes that resembles the 80s action flicks.  After the Transporter, he came out with awesome action movies one after another.  Movies like Crank 1 and 2, Transporters 2 and 3, Death Race, etc.  I just hope he doesn't blow it like the ones before him and go away from what makes him what he is, A badass action star.

I am not sure if this is a positive or negative review of Jason Statham. Hahaha. Yeah, he was pretty cool in the first Transporter. I liked how he kicked everyone's butt and straightened out his jacket. Very slick. He was awful in Revolver though.

An expected comment coming from someone who only likes bad movies =)

I couldn't agree with you more -- Statham brings the action. For three weeks after watching the first Transporter, I was searching the web for a used BMW 7-series with manual transmission so I could kick ass like the Transporter -- couldn't find the car... currently driving the Accord... not kicking any ass.

Well I gotta get one of those new audis from Transporter 2, it goes through walls without even getting a scratch. My bmw gets scratched up from pebbles on the freeway....
