So now we learn that Katie Couric's tenure as anchor of the "CBS Evening News" will be ending within a couple of months. She never should have gotten the job in the first place. She is a fine interviewer but had absolutely no credentials to be a network anchor. If it were up to me I would go after Shepard Smith to take the reins of this broadcast. In fact, he would have been my choice when Katie got the job the first time around.

I agree that she was a lightweight when she started, but she's come a long way. I was just commenting to my husband about how Couric's developed the ability and willingness to ask pointed questions and insist upon an answer in her interviews. But she's not half bad as an anchor now.
