Their Grammar Isn't That Bad

  • Apr 27, 2004
The self-titled debut from Bad English is an album that will always be remembered for one song: "When I See You Smile." It is the only song you'll hear with any regularity anymore by this group. Granted, other songs were released and did well, but "When I See You Smile" was the pinnacle of a two album career for a band that had the look and sound of every other average melodic rock group.

There is nothing on this album that stands out, excepting the aforementioned hit. Songs like "Possession" and "Price of Love" were good for their time, but they hold little weight these days. I haven't heard either on any 80's genre radio stations as of late.

The rest of the album is chock full of melodic/hard rock standard fare that sounds a little bit dated today. The songs are all very good, but they seem to have lost their flavor somewhere around 1993.

This album is for everyone who grew up in the late 80's and early 90's who wants to relive the good ol' days. I'm sure it will bring back some great memories for anyone growing up during that time. I know it did for me. If that's the only reason you purchase this album, you'll hear no arguments from me. I really liked this album, but I know that it isn't going to end up on any "100 Greatest Albums" list anytime soon. That's why it only gets three stars. To fully appreciate this album, I guess you had to be there.

In closing, listen to this disc when you have your old school buddies over and remind them that "When I See You Smile" was the first song that ever got you beyond first base with a girl.
