Bee Gees' 1st was the international debut release of The Bee Gees. The trio released a couple of albums in Australia before recording this psychedelic pop album. Pop music was filled with psychedelic music around this time and the Gibb Brothers (along with Vince Melouney on lead guitar and Colin Petersen on the skins) recorded some of the much underrated music on this disc. A couple of their big numbers make their debut here (To Love Somebody and The New York Mining Disaster 1941). The songs I really liked on this album were the real trippy Every Christian Lion-Hearted Man Will Show You and Red Chair, Fade Away. But you really can't go wrong with any of the songs because the album is that good.
It's a shame that the Bee Gees are really known in the US only for their cheesy disco music from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The period from the late 60's and early 70's was the beginning of the first phase of their careers (and in my opinion the best). If you're into psych-pop or a big fan of the Bee Gees then I highly recommend checking this album out. It's available in several editions, a single disc or for you die hard audiophiles a two disc version with both mono and stereo versions.
