Diamond Rio has been one of my favorite country acts since their self-titled debut hit the stores. This greatest hits package is an excellent primer for anyone wishing to listen to some very tight harmonies, wonderful guitar and mandolin work and overall great production. Diamond Rio has a knack for cranking out slick sounding music that doesn't come across as being too fake or manufactured. These guys can really play. In fact, they've only strengthened as a group as they begin to get on in years.
The first song on this album is quite possibly my favorite Diamond Rio tune. "That's How Your Love Makes Me Feel" is a perfect song. It's fast-paced, carefree and just fun to listen to. It is a grand attempt at describing what love really does fill like. Other songs included here are the #1 hit, "Meet In The Middle." It was the first release from Diamond Rio and ceases to fall off into oblivion. "Love A Little Stronger" is another one of the best of this set.
Five stars might be over doing it a little, but I feel confident that anyone who picks this album up will find at least two or three songs that they'll really enjoy. Even the somewhat silly "Bubba Hyde" and the twisted "It's All In Your Head" fit perfect in this set.
Overall, a great album to own. If you want a taste of what a real country band can do with great musicianship and harmonies, get this one. If you enjoy groups like the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Sawyer Brown, there's something here for both of you. Diamond Rio has long since put many albums out following this greatest hits compilation, and I suggest you give some of them a try as well.
