One by One

An album by Foo Fighters

There's a certain sameness to the spiky, percussive bursts of punk-pop tabled by the Foo Fighters. Yet it's pretty hard to fault players as palpably enthusiastic as Dave Grohl and his gang. Every Foos record, up to and including their fourth studio disc,One … see full wiki

Their best, most consistent album

  • Jun 9, 2003
This is Foo Fighters at their hard rocking best. Their prior album was just a bit too mellow...we'd like to hear them rock out more, yet keep it melodic. ONE BY ONE delivers this. That's not to say there aren't some "slow" songs, but they are in the minority.

First of all, ALL MY LIFE is their best song ever. It's rare for me to really LIKE a song after just one listen, but this one grabbed me instantly. It really drives, and after many listens, I'm still not the least bit tired of it. TIMES LIKE THESE, the current single, is a little more "mellow" but it still has a good, mid-tempo drive to it, and is a fairly optimistic song.

My other personal favorite is HAVE IT ALL. Unusual lyrics, very evocative.

Foo Fighters are not heavy metal...when I say they rock, I'm not talking Metallica here. But Dave Grohl and company have added a bit more of a grind to their heartfelt lyrics. It makes for a nice combination and an album I listen to frequently. One of the strongest releases in the straigh-ahead rock world in quite some time...right up there with Queens of the Stone Age (another project Dave Grohl has dabbled in...hmmmmm.)
