Tasty Flavorings By The Purple One

  • Mar 26, 2003
I've been listening a great deal to Prince as of late. And I can truly see why he has such a huge fan base especially here on Amazon. This Sign O The Times recording surely covers many styles from soulful ballads(Forever In My Life, Slow Love), Funky Jams(Housequake), and Rock N Roll(I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man, Play In The Sunshine).

In addition there are plenty of ecclectic numbers which combine oh so many elements. The Cross offers some religious symbolism combined with psychedlic tones. Starfish And Coffee is a delightful pop tune with pleasing piano and some funky drums accents. And that Housequake number just has me in stiches with Prince's oddball vocal stylings about a dance craze that he's trying to invent. Shut up already.

All in all this is a very strong CD. A few songs drag on a bit in spots but I am very impressed with the many textures. One of the first CD's to get by Prince if you desire to collect original recordings as opposed to compilations.
