It begins with the insistent drip-drop of a sequencer and ends with some old school R&B. In between, the artist who was still calling himself Prince unfurls an encyclopedia of moods, genres, and grooves. Widely heralded as a groundbreaker in 1987, when it was released, some of the music in oh-so-'80s synths sounds a bit dated. Yet this two-CD set is clearly the sound of a performer at the height of his power. I've been listening a great deal to Prince as of late. And I can truly see why he has such a huge fan base especially here on Amazon. This Sign O The Times recording surely covers many styles from soulful ballads(Forever In My Life, Slow Love), Funky Jams(Housequake), and Rock N Roll(I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man, Play In The Sunshine).In addition there are plenty of ecclectic numbers which combine oh so many elements.
