A Good Mix of the Hack&Slash and Bullet Hell Genres

What happened in the three hours of the game?

Most of my time was spent in Stage 3. This is one large and difficult stage has little to no indication of where you need to go (this is the same for almost all maps). This is the type of game design of certain players may get into if they prefer to explore by instinct or landmarks. There are highly difficult enemies that, in a sense, obstruct you because you've gotten lost. I still managed to enjoy Crescent Pale Mist afterward.

What was the most challenging part you completed?

Making it to the end of Stage 3. Period.

What was the best part of the story?

That's the problem. For a doujin game like Crescent Pale Mist, you'd think the story isn't the main focus of the game. However, there is indeed a story, something that Classic Shikoukairo (the indie developer) spent time to create. Despite that the dialogue is long, voiceless, and with 2D remodeled character illustrations, I felt like I wanted to get into the story, sharing the same pain as Yunou, the main character, before I kick a boss' ass. Even the portrayal of one of the antagonists, Narju, shows that she's really ambitious and evil in comparison to some one-word-stereotype anime girls, at least in my opinion.

Share the most innovative gameplay mechanic.

The most interesting mechanic is the manipulation of the Pale Mist you command. As you slash your enemies, they will eject Pale Mist from their bodies, allowing you to absorb the mist (as well as healing yourself) or transform them into projectiles. This is one mechanic you will use a lot against difficult enemies.

What ice cream flavor best represents this game?

Peach. It's hard to get used to at first, with harsh enemies and large stages, but fans of bullet hell games should buy this game and try it out. After all, it's only $6.
