My favorite Player

Magic is my favorite player and athlete.  Most people will say Michael Jordan is the best player ever. But, to me, it's Magic. Here, I'm going to write up why I say Magic was the best player in the NBA:

He was the most athletic basketball player to me. Jordan was quicker and could jump higher. Magic was faster, taller, stronger, more coordinated and could do more from all over the court. Magic played in a more athletic era. The NBA was more of a running game in the 80s. Since the 90s it's more of a chess match with offense schemes used to free up elite players. Back then you had to outrun or out-muscle the other team. And Magic dominated that era.The only other big man that I've seen that was fast and could change directions like Magic was Hakeem Olajuwan.   Enforcers like Kevin McHale and Buck Williams, if they played him the whole game was too tired to keep up at the end of games.  Quick players like Kevin Johnson and Tim Hardaway even though they were a lot younger had a tough time staying in front of Magic in both the fast break and the half court game. Jordan was pound for pound stronger, could jump higher and was more agile. But Magic had better vision, was faster, more stamina, could play with either hand, and had more moves from all different places on the court. At 6'9" Magic was a freak of nature.

Jordan was a much better one on one defender. Magic was pretty good as a help defender and he was used to cover the court. He set the steals record one season and was always one of the best rebounders on the court.

He had a great low post game, better than Jordan's (Jordan had 2 moves---the face up leg crossover and the fade away... Magic incorporated a baby hook,, and he could shoot with both hands). Both players incorporated James Worthy's style spin game. But Magic was more unpredictable.

Magic definitly had a better dribble. And could pass better. He had better floor leadership and could control the tempo of the game better than anyone. No argument there, right?

Jordan has more championships. But Magic beat some of the greats: Larry Bird's Celtics, Dr J's Sixers, Drexler's TrailBlazers, youg teams led by Hakeem and Stockton/Malone...

Jordan had better stats. But he never shared the ball until Pippen and Phil Jackson came into his life.

Magic defined the sport. He was as crafty as he was atheltic. Jordan embarrassed players by dunking on them. Magic embarrassed players by confusing them. He saw the whole court and he also knew all the things that a defense might do against him and he was always quicker to the punch to attack.

If people ran the world like Magic ran the court... imagine...

He had the most fun of any athelete ever. He knew he was the best out there and he loved throwing the ball around. Magic was a better showman and entertainer. I liked rooting for Magic than I liked rooting against Jordan. I felt more inspired to play basketball after watching Magic have fun.
