Fade to Black Volume 1 is the first edition of a new winter seasonal by Left Hand Brewing Company. It is a foreign export stout, which is stronger than most stouts (with the exception of imperial stouts).
Left Hand is a Colorado brewery that started in 1990 as a homebrew kit owned by Dick Doore, co-founder of the brewery. In 1993, he joined up with college friend Eric Wallace to brew beer, and they became co-founders of Left Hand Brewing. The brewery currently brews a number of beers, their flagship beer being the Sawtooth Ale, an American-style extra special bitter (ESB) .
Fade to Black is an export stout from Left Hand Brewing, a brewery I’ve subconsciously snubbed until now because I didn’t like their labels (their web site is pretty cool, though). But this new seasonal beer inflamed my interest with its etched black and white artwork and Gothic lettering. The ale inside also enchants; it pours bulletproof black with a compact, light-mocha head that exhales coffee and roasted wood.
