Didn't realize it was for kids. Even so, there are better.

I didn't realize this book was intended for children, probably in the middle-school range. It is a bare summary of filmmaking and, frankly, seems to be an ego-trip for Elliott Grove, a director of some English film festivals who makes a big deal of once having worked on a 35 mm commercial production.

It unfortunately follows a children's book format for titles such as "Fly your own jet fighter plane!" Lots of short text snippets, lots of pictures and graphics and very little actual content. It does cover the entire production process, including theatrical distribution. Much of the content will simply be beyond the understanding of very young people for lack of other knowledge. This will have the unfortunate effect of leaving kids with the impression that they know something when in fact they don't.

I was amazed by Grove's assertion that "Reservoir Dogs" is a Zombie film. Obviously a mistake as is this book for anyone who is looking for serious information on filmmaking. On the other hand, it might not be so bad for stoking childish dreams - though I think a book that actually showed you how to do things with simple equipment available to kids would be better.
