Here's one way to save money

  • Aug 21, 2000
Pros: none

Cons: discrepancies, promotes expensive items

Don't buy this book and that will save you $15 right off the bat. I cannot believe I bought this book twice. I bought the first edition when my first daughter was a baby, I didn't like it then and gave it away so many people raved about it though I figured since the first edition was their first try and maybe it got better in to editions so I bought the 3rd edition (most recent) when I was pregnant with my second daughter.

There are so many things I did not like about this book I don't even know where to start. First off there are places in the book that give incorrect information. Then they try to save you money but in my opinion had I gone with them I would have spent more money. They tell you not to buy an Italian crib for $500 but instead to spend $180-$300 on other brands they recommend when I can go to Sears and buy a good quality Jenny Lind style crib from a reputable company for under $100 on sale. It also only covered drawstring layette gowns which I believe were actually outlawed and are no longer made, not the newer elastic bottom ones. Not to mention both my daughters lived in these and I know many people who loved them and they said they were useless. They also raved upon rave for the diaper genie which even though I use I do not think it works anywhere near as well as people say. Anyway I could go on and on. Basically I disagree with a lot of the book.

I could not recommend this book to anyone. Shopping sales and reading epinions is a cheaper and much better way of getting your moneys worth.
