Learn Colors with Baby Gecko (English and Spanish)

  • Dec 22, 2010
Baby Gecko's Colors is a board book appropriate for children of all ages. Though it's written for a young audience, preschool to second grade, it is a useful tool for children to learn some basic Spanish.

The premise of the story is simple enough: Baby Gecko explores the wonders of the desert while learning his colors. The illustrations are engaging, and the board book quality ensures that wear and tear will not be the cause of an early demise. The only negative aspect about this book is that not all the colors of the rainbow are taught. Author Neecy Twinem focuses on primary colors: red, blue, yellow, and green.

The story is written in English and Spanish. The English translations are on the top of the page with the Spanish underneath. This is a perfect technique for translations and juxtaposes familiar and unfamiliar words near each other. The words for the colors are in bold and capital fonts and so are the Spanish counterparts. This makes it easy for a child to understand that "red" is "roja" in Spanish.

Overall, this is a fun and simple read that teaches and engages a child and their parents. Whether you are learning Spanish or English, Luna Rising Press offers a great addition for any home's library.
