High school is full of prejudices of all types. Insecurity is everywhere, and even in a diverse area, there is segregation of all types. Both authors caught that nuance and dealt with it gracefully and dealt with the race issue in a superb manner. Yes, there are ugly scenes in this book- some that filled me with horror and disgust. "Bifocal" is a new children's novel that revolves around one of the hottest topics in America: Terrorism. Though the book rarely gets deep in it's subject of what a terrorist is or isn't, the book spends a great deal of time revolving around a common fear of whether or not kids can be terrorists.
