Eric Larsen's night did not start out good. He was a struggling actor waiting tables at a small restaurant and all evening he had been dealing with a parade of cheap, obnoxious people. Then he got a surprise, Allen Barrow strolled in the door and was nice and left a big tip and Eric felt his luck had turned. What he didn't yet realize was that turn would be for the worse. And that is what happened on his way home. He was kidnapped and sexually assaulted, treated as though he was nothing more but a male whore hired to service three johns. Then there is Bobby Carapisi. His world was good--he had a wife and child and another baby on the way. His dream job as a relief pitcher was going fine and his future in baseball seemed full of promise. But when his wife wanted some lime sherbet, late one night he went out to get it and ended up being taken through the same horror as Eric by the same three men. However this time there was worse brutality. What neither man realized was that their ordeals had only just begun.

In "Bobby Carapisi", everything is told realistically by two victims of sexual assault. I was so into the story that I felt what the characters felt. "Bobby Carapisi" is very well-written and it is emotionally affective.

This is not a book of erotica but a startling journey into the souls of two men who are sexually assaulted and how each is treated differently by the justice system and society.

Sullivan works in both Eric's awakening as a gay man, told in stories that are almost sweet and very believable, and Bobby's love for his wife, Donna; their little girl and how he wants nothing more than to be a good provider for them and the son they're about to have.

This is only volume one of what seems as if it is to be a two-volume book so it is hard to tell where the story is going. Sullivan digs deep into the psyches of both men, and finds two voices that are so distinct and different.
