Break No Bones is the 9th book in Kathy Reichs bestselling Temperance Brennan series.  I've read all the previous ones and believe I liked this one the best.  Ms. Reichs' early books included extensive detail on forensic sciences to the point where I think she almost buried the actual storyline.  I know several people who started one of her early books and set it aside part-way with the comment "too much detail, not enough story."      In Break …

Since I'm currently recovering from some surgery, I decided to treat myself to a little Tempe Brennan action with Kathy Reichs latest, Break No Bones. There's a lot of stuff going on in this novel, and the surgery pain may have prevented me from enjoying it quite as much as I normally would.    Brennan is down in South Carolina teaching an archeological class complete with dig, and she discovers a body that isn't nearly as old as the surrounding area. I enjoy this author's work and am sure I will continue to do so. I enjoyed this work also, but did feel it was a bit flat (for lack of a better discription) than some of her previous novels. I certainly will not go into the story here, there are plenty of other reviews that have done that as well ans Publisher's Weekly, but I did find the story interesting, if not the characters. This was a rather easy read with few wasted words. I personally like this sort of style but can well see where others …

I picked up this book out of desperation at the local library. I have, frankly, never quite understood the fascination with Kathy Reichs and her books. The only reason I picked this one up is because I live in Montreal and its fun to read about my own city through the eyes of Americans.
