"Capitol Reflections," by Jonathan Javitt, is a wonderful political/scientific thriller. After a somewhat slow start, U.S. Public Health Service captain Gwen Maulder finds herself, her husband and a whole Ford Bronco full of other people caught up in a conspiracy that goes deep into Washington D.C., a number of government agencies and numerous parts of the agricultural (yep, that's right, agricultural) world. Some books are hard to review because they have strengths and weaknesses and this one certainly fits that description. But the bottom line on this novel is that it is a very entertaining and fun thriller, but it is so outlandishly unbelievable and the logic of some of the early actions to set up the plot are so poorly thought out that the reader can never suspend disbelief to truly engage with the story. It's always nice to find a first-time novelist who seems to have more talent and experience than their record would indicate.
