This is one of the books that the movie, Capote, was based on, and I can't think of any biography I've ever read that is more thoroughly researched than this one.  At a certain point, Gerald Clarke documents Capote's life day-by-day and it was a pretty incredible life.  It took him something like eight years to write and you can tell.  Capote knew it was being written and loved the idea--I'm not sure if he cooperated with him or not, but it sure seems like he must have.
