Lisa Scottoline deals with a mother's love and the extent to which a mother would go to to protect her family.
Her former step-daughter, Abby appears at Jill's home and tells her that her father, William, has been murdered. She asks Jill for help. Since Jill is a pediatrician, she could use her medical training to help investigate.
Jill is moved by Abby's sadness and with her daughter, Megan, she tries to go to William's memorial service but his other daughter, Victoria demands that she leave and accuses her of abandoning them.
Reluctantly, Jill investigates the facts around William's death and comes to certain conclusions.
Things are going in a predictable manner when the author demonstrates her story telling skills and provides a wonderful change in direction.
The concluding part of this novel will make the reader sit up and cheer.
