Reviewed by: Wayne Walker     How do you think you would feel if some part of your body were bigger than everyone else's? Davey is a boy whose head is so large that he has trouble getting his shirt on. He gets stuck in the door trying to get on the school bus. And he is always the first one to be thrown out in dodge ball during gym class. The kids tease him, calling him "Davey Big Head," and he feels sad. He doesn't want to get up and go to school. But then he has an idea. He …

Self published through Amazon's Book Surge Division, this children's book tells of Davey's experiences at his first day of school. Davey has a very big head that is far out of proportion to the rest of his body. He can't get on the bus because his head is too big. He gets caught in the jungle gym, is quickly out in dodge ball, and gets found easily during hide-and-go-seek after school all thanks to his giant head. His first day of school wasn't very good. That night he has a great idea.    On …

Peter J. Hayden has penned (and illustrated) a winner as his first foray into the genre of children's literature with the publication of DAVEY BIGHEAD: DREAM BIG. The book is bright and colorful, rich with images just the right size for even very young 'readers' to capture. Hayden has created a strong character in Davey, a little boy who loathes getting up in the morning because it means he must face yet another day in school where his classmates make fun of his oversized head. Davey's head causes …

Turning what appear to be disadvantages into assets is one of the primary characteristics that will drive a person to be successful. Everyone has their flaws and weaknesses and it is how we overcome and even exploit them that largely determine our fate in life.    This children's book begins with what appears to be a serious physical flaw in a young boy named Davey. His head is huge and it is forever getting in the way and is the source of a great deal of ridicule from the other children. …

I received an adorable children's book today called Davey Big Head: Dream Big by Peter J. Hayden. This is the story of Davey, a child who has an enormous head. Every time he tries to make friends he is made fun of because of his gigantic head. Davey tries to play games with the other kids at recess but his big head always gets in the way. Davey becomes discouraged until one night, unable to sleep, he has a brilliant idea. He can't wait to get to school the next day because he has finally figured …

Davey Bighead is story for all types of kids. It tells the tale of a young man who doesn't quite fit in and is painfully aware of his difference. However, Davey figures out a way (on his own... no adult suggestion was needed) to capitalize on his difference and learn that we all have special gifts. In many ways, "Davey Bighead" is a non-Christmas version of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" - Don't get me wrong "Davey Bighead" is completely original, but it does encompass a similar theme.     …

Hayden, Peter J. "Davey Bighead: Dream Big", BookSurge, 2009.    Embracing Differences    Amos Lassen    We all need love and when we are different we seem to need it even more. Davey Bighead is a child who wants to fit in. He was born with a large head and the kids at school made fun of him. His big head seems to be everywhere. He learns that playing soccer might be the answer and sure enough it was. He was cheered and he became loved.   Althoug …
