Joe Hunter used to be in Special Forces working against the terrorists. He did it for fourteen years and was good at it. Those skills don't exactly translate well to civilian life so he finds himself working on the edge of things and solving problems that require the answer of gun or fist.    His sister in law, Jenny, wants him to travel to the U. I get the impression that Hunter is a new character in fiction, but he remains a rather flat character in this novel.    I found the suspense lacking and the plot disappointingly predictable after the first two chapters. Hunter is worthy of further development, but there should be more interesting minor characters and villains.    It makes for a decent "page-turner" at this stage, and there's hope that in future novels Matt Hilton will not tell us so much …

This novel hits all the tough guy novel buttons. Ex special services military, check. Combat expert, check. Tough guy name, Hunter, check. Sidekick, check. Evil nemesis, check. Works mostly outside the law, check. Heart of gold under a jaded exterior, check.     The plot moves quickly. The bad guy is truly evil. There's plenty of action.
