It is hot in Texas. Very hot.      Echo Burning is another Jack Reacher novel, from Lee Child, which opens with him looking to get a ride out of Lubbock, Texas, to avoid some unpleasantness with the police. He isn't looking for a ride long when a woman in a Cadillac picks him up. This wasn't a random act of kindness - she has an ulterior motive for stopping. Lee Child started out with some pretty fine novels in his series featuring the ex-military cop, now drifter Jack Reacher.     Reacher seems to have a penchant for landing in some rather outlandish and bizarre situations. Unfortunately, Child lost his touch in this one.
