   Anderson has an excellent talent for making comic characters come to life with mere words as to give the reader the feeling you are watching a movie or at best looking at the rich artwork of a comic. This story covers the beginnings of both Superman and Batman who meet for the first time. The tale set in the fifties has a Superman character closer to the Superman Returns personality and Batman with a personality like he was portrayed in Batman Begins (the Dark Knight version).    …

A novel of Superman and Batman's first meeting, set in the late 1950's. Superman and Batman have both recently revealed themselves to the world. Superman is seen as a hero, while Batman is a wanted criminal in Gotham City. The two of them meet as they both become aware of the  plotting of Lex Luthor and a Soviet general to take over the world through a variety of schemes starting with the accidental launch of some Soviet missiles. I'm not a comic book reader (yet) but Batman has always been one of my favorite heroes, which is why I decided to try this book. The Adam West TV show was before my time but, as a child, I enjoyed watching the re-runs. I've also enjoyed the various Batman movies & cartoons. My favorite rendition of the character is in Batman: The Animated Series.     I was afraid that the character that I had come to care so much about would not be portrayed well in a new medium. Batman and Superman really haven't much in common, especially the "darker" version of Batman. They both operate in very different ways, one has powers while the other doesn't, etc. But comic creators for ages have felt the need to bring the two together.
