Unlike the main line of Doctor Who adventures from Big Finish the Companion Chronicles are shorter adventures more like a narrative with a single person reading and a second actor to play against them on occasions in the story.
Find and replace would be just another episode in that style but this time Katy Manning plays not only Jo Grant from her three years in on the Classic Dr. Who series but the irrepressible time Lady Iris Wildthyme the character from the novels that she has brought to live in several Big Finish adventures including The Wormery and her own line of stories. Thus we get two characters for the price of one.
And all is not well. In Decades after her time in UNIT Jo Grant suddenly finds herself confronted by one of the novelizers of the planet Verbatim 6 those annoying creatures who attach themselves to an interesting individual and annoying begin to recite and narrate their life as it happens, but something is wrong. According to this novelizer she had never met the doctor but instead traveled on the Double Decker Bus shaped TARDIS of the often inebriated Ms. Wildthyme.
What is going on? Could her memories be wrong or is this some kind of elaborate trap, but for whom?
As a rule the novelizer stories are fun, Iris is a great character (much more interesting that Jo) and the action goes on and on.
The timeline of this story is a little tough but without revealing too much of the climax we must assume it takes place before Jo Grant's meeting with the 11th doctor in the current Sarah Jane Adventures.
Even better the story is apparently the first of several parings of the two characters. I don't know if it will be in the Companion Chronicles or in the Iris Wildthyme series, but I'll tell you this. If this tale is any gauge either way it won't be dull.
