Gangster Government: Barack Obama and the New Washington Thugocracy
2011 nonfiction book by David Freddoso
“GANGSTER GOVERNMENT” Columnist Michael Barone invented the phrase. President Obama has perfected the practice. And in this new and stunning book, New York Times best-selling author David … see full wiki
"Gangster government shuns the light and operates in the shadows, cuts deals with favored businesses, writes provisions known only by a select few, offers legislative and regulatory exemptions to friends, and threatens opponents with death by regulation." This quotation from author David Freddoso's compelling new book "Gangster Government: Barack Obama and the New Washington Thugocracy" neatly and succinctly sums up the methods employed by our esteemed President and many of the members of his administration since they arrived in Washington in January 2009. In "Gangster Government" David Freddoso offers us a litany of all of the outrages of the first two years of the Obama administration. Seeing them enumerated all in one place only serves to remind the reader of the total contempt that these officials have for the rule of law and for those of us in the private sector who actually foot the bill for Mr.Obama's massive and ill-conceived expansion of the federal government.
During the campaign Barack Obama pledged that if elected he would "fundamentally change America". The President wasted little time in implementing his radical agenda with one outrageous move after another. The pace was fast and furious and those of us who opposed his policies simply could not keep up. This was by design as the Obama administration orchestrated the government takeover of GM and Chrysler, approved a second round of TARP spending, shoved Obamacare down our throats, sued the State of Arizona for attempting to enforce existing federal immigration statutes while at the same time refusing to prosecute two members of the Black Panther party who were captured on tape intimidating voters in Philadelphia on Election Day 2008. But there's more. David Freddosso chronicles how the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" better known as the "stimulus" package was used to reward allies of the administration. Freddoso cites the example of the Shepherds Flat wind farm in Oregon. The "stimulus" package funneled $1.2 billion (that's billion with a "b") to this project that was being developed by Caithness Energy LLC and General Electric Energy Financial Services (surprise, surprise!). Here was a project that was already benefiting from numerous state and federal subsidies and tax breaks. The power generated by this wind farm is slated to be sold to customers in California who will be forced to purchase this wind-generated electricity at above-market rates for the next 20 years. Why it's the gift the keeps on giving! Meanwhile, the wind farm will only be hiring a total of 35 permanent workers and some 400 construction workers to build this wind farm. Do the math......that is a total of $2.8 million in subsidies per job! Then there are all of the "czars" like Carol Browner that the President appointed in order to circumvent the normal Senate confirmation process. At last count I believe there were something like 30 of them. And the list goes on and on and on. All the while Obama has been portrayed by the lap-dog mainstream media in this country as a "good government" President who is looking out for the best interests of the average American. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Reading "Gangster Government: Barack Obama and the New Washington Thugocracy" only serves to confirm what I have suspected all along. Unless you are a government employee or a client of the government or a member of a favored union like the UAW then you are a net loser. Mr. Obama and his accomplices in the federal bureaucracy and his Democratic allies in the House and Senate have been working feverishly to tip the scales in their favor. We are dangerously close to a situation where there are actually more people in the wagon than those who are pulling it. Some believe we have already passed the tipping point. This is an extremely corrupt administration willing to do or say anything to acheive their goals. Mr. Freddoso chronicles all of it in this fast-moving and well written book. With a forward by the well-known Washington columnist Michael Barone who has been credited with coining the phrase "Gangster Government". Highly recommended!
