Handle with Care is a novel that is well written and accurate with regard to the emotions experienced by a parent of a child with special needs.  It shows the lengths a parent is willing to go to to protect and preserve the life of their child.  The mother in this story is so extremely driven to care for her child that she risks uprooting her life.  She tampers with her marriage, her friendships, and her relationship with her child.  I think the underlying story of the “forgotten …

I loved this book.  It is my favorite novel by Picoult.  This is an issue that faces many parents today, what would you do if you had a child with a disability?  The lengths a parent will go to to protect and provide for their children is awe-inspiring.  This novel really addresses the complex variety of emotions that a special needs parent will inevitably face.  This mother makes incredibly difficult choices, alienates her family and friends, and forever shifts …

Jodi Picoult's latest provocative tome, "Handle with Care: A Novel," leads us down a typically controversial path when a young mother, Charlotte O'Keefe, sues her obstetrician, Piper Reece - who also happens to have been her best friend. The crux of the suit surrounds the …

Willow O'Keefe is born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Type III - otherwise known as brittle bone disease. Willow's bones can break by just sneezing or turning over in bed while sleeping. She will suffer hundreds of broken bones throughout her life span.     After a horrible experience in Disney World, the family consults an attorney and they are introduced to the term "Wrongful Birth". The attorney's and Charlotte (Willow's mother) believe that Willow's condition was not diagnosed …

Jodi Picoult hands us another winner in this tale of a family crippled by the overwhelming health challenges of one of their children. Charlotte and Sean O'Keefe are finally blessed with a pregnancy...after trying unsuccessfully for a long time. This blended family...with Amelia being Charlotte's daughter from a previous marriage...is thrilled about their new addition. With her best friend serving as her obstetrician, Charlotte is confident that she could not be in better medical hands. But when …
