I was unable to figure out what all the fuss concerning Harry Potter was about. As a fan of fantasy and someone who works with children, I made a promise to read the first book in the series and discover myself what the fuss is about. I have finally fulfilled that promise to myself and have been made to understand. HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE is not a great piece of literature, nor will it change your life or make you a wonderful person. However, it is a great … more
Most decidedly curmudgeonly! Yes, that's it. One of the few remaining people on the planet who hadn't read any of the Harry Potter novels and, like Vernon Dursley, my initial reaction to all this wizard and magic rubbish was a very mugglish "stuff and nonsense". I admit it. As I read the first few pages, my initial thoughts were that this was all quite silly. Where had this Harry Potter phenomenon come from and what did everybody see in it? But then, very quickly … more
I picked up my first Harry Potter book at the end of 4th grade. I had forgotten to bring a book for reading time again and I was scouring the shelves when the librarian offered this book she’d heard about. I looked at it, told her that it was too childish, and put it away. That summer I tried find that book again, for curiosity’s sake. What was it called? Harry Something and the Wizard’s Stone? I eventually got around to reading it. I tore through … more
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone aka Sorcerer's Stone written by JK Rowling is one of my favorite books of all time. It is an excellent Young Adult novel and is a great way to start the Harry Potter Saga. Rowling takes us to another world filled with magic and strange creatures. What makes this world so intriguing is how familiar everything is but given a magic element to it. For example, we have all gone to school but never been to a school for wizards. We have bought … more
The famous Harry Potter. This a good litterature but sincerely... nothing to add in your life. Easy vocabulary and no moral of story. If you want to be a witch when you grow up, maybe it can help you.
JK Rowling takes Cinderella and turns her into a boy with mean foster parents, a bullying coison who discovers he is wizard. Written for older teens. good writing and good story.
read this book in the 3rd or 4th grade. since then ive read it about 20 more times. the harry potter series is one of my favorite series of books in the world. the way they all just go together, the stories dont stray off, its all about trying to get rid of voldemort. its too the point, very well written. you can tell she kind of changed directions somewhere in the story from her original ideas. but that just made her writing style even more signature than it already was. really good first book.
the book that opened the doors from rowlings wizarding world, to the world of us muggles. who would have ever known that one little boy could thrill an entire generation of kids?
