Heavier than Heaven is an emotional inside look of the life of Kurt Cobain from birth to death. In depth explanations of Cobain's childhood to adulthood will captivate the reader cover to cover. After reading this biography I felt as if I personally knew Cobain. It illustrates how Cobain was born to a normal middle-class family and how certain factors shaped him to become the person he did. The biggest factor that had the most negative impact was the divorce of his parents at age eight. From then on Cobain drew completely inward. From this point on his relationship with his parents was strained. It spoke of how Cobain was an outsider in school and how so much of his personality was centered around being an individual.  This book made me realize how much of an artist Cobain was at heart and how I am similar to him in that aspect. Heavier than Heaven tells of the beginnings of Cobain’s musical career and how radically his life was changed because of it. The book portrays him as someone who goes from being completely in  it for the music, the poster boy of grunge who doesn’t care about anything from money to looks, to someone who is solely in it for the money even when it wasn’t making him happy. It tells of his heroin addiction in the beginning of it and as it progressed.  This book considers all the factors that lead up to his untimely death ruled suicide at the age of 27.
Heavier than Heaven causes you to see the Cobain story from several different angles: that of Cobain’s family members, friends, and wife.  A definite must-read for any music lover, Cobain fan, or person that could relate to Cobain in some way.
