I've read a lot about Abraham Lincoln and his times, and I thought that I knew as much as it was possible to know about the last few days of his life. This well-written new book has shown me that there are many things about Lincoln of which I was unaware, which seems to happen to me all the time with historical subjects. Not since The Devil in the White City have I read a history book that gripped me from start to finish. The authors do an amazing job of transporting the reader back in time where the reader feels like they are actually there. It starts with the last days of the civil war. It describes the events in such detail and suspense that even though you know that Lee will be cornered at Appomattox, you keep thinking that maybe he will escape back into the South.      I could barely believe …
