A collection of Cthulhu Mythos themed horror stories by some of Japan's most popular authors. The quality in this collection varies, but I generally found the stories in the first half to be the best (with the first one being undoubtedly the most entertaining). What drops the score for me however was the last story...I really disliked it. It's like someone was writing an outline for an action packed manga and decided to turn it into literature. Bickering teenage protagonists and constant monster battles are NOT something I want in an HP Lovecraft story. Overall if you like Japanese fiction, H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos, you might get a kick out of this. Just don't go in expecting any new literary classics. I haven't read the other volumes in this series though, so I can't say how it compares.
